What does limited edition mean for TEREA sticks?

It depends what you are searching for. On the device side, limited editions are real: IQOS ILUMA holders come in special finishes such as Stardrift, Bright, Neon, Oasis and Remix, produced in fixed runs that are not restocked. Those are on our limited edition devices page.

TEREA sticks work differently. IQOS names some flavours "Edition", including Golden Edition and Perint Pearl Edition in Indonesia, and releases others as distinct blends inside one market's range. In the case of Golden Edition, the word marks a specific release in the Indonesian line-up and does not mean a limited run.

What is true is that these flavours are not available everywhere. Some of them are sold in one market only, so they sit outside the core flavours that we stock from several countries, such as Amber, Silver or Purple Wave. Availability follows supply, and we cannot promise that a flavour will come back once a batch sells through. If you find one you like, order a carton and not a single pack.

Every one is an IQOS TEREA stick in a pack of 20, with a carton of 10 packs, or 200 sticks. Each stick gives up to 14 puffs, and our listings state approximately 0.5 mg of nicotine per stick.

TEREA Golden Edition

Golden Edition puts ripe berries and a light menthol over the Indonesian tobacco base. The berry arrives first and reads ripe and not tart. The tobacco underneath is standard Indonesian, so it is fuller than a Japanese equivalent. The menthol is the last element and the quietest, doing just enough to keep the sweetness in check.

That restraint is what sets it apart. Most berry-menthol sticks let the cooling take over by the halfway point, and this one holds its balance to the end. If you want the menthol to lead, Purple Wave goes darker on the fruit and much harder on the cooling, and Golden Edition is the gentler, sweeter and more everyday version of a similar idea.

TEREA Perint Pearl Edition

Perint Pearl Edition is the mint capsule stick in the Indonesian range. There is light tobacco underneath, a crushable cooling capsule in the filter, and no fruit anywhere in it. Left intact it is a mild, unremarkable tobacco stick with barely any cooling. Crush the capsule and it turns properly cold, and that gap between the two states is wider here than in the fruit Pearls because no fruit note bridges them.

In effect you choose between a plain light stick and a menthol one, whenever you want. Crush the capsule early for cooling from the first puff, or partway through to get both halves out of one stick. Riviera Pearl carries fruit alongside the capsule, and Perint is the clean option. Japan's Shine Pearl does the same job on a drier base.

TEREA Dimension Yugen

Dimension Yugen is the floral stick in the range, and part of the Dimension series that sits apart from the standard TEREA line-up. A light floral note runs over soft fruit with the tobacco kept well back. The series is built around aroma and not tobacco strength, and Yugen is the clearest example of that.

It is a quiet stick, and that is the point. Heavy smokers usually find it insufficient. If you want something delicate in the evening, it is the most interesting thing in the Indonesian range. If you want a like-for-like replacement for a full-strength cigarette, a roasted Amber sits closer.

TEREA Apricity

Apricity is the most distinctly Indonesian stick we stock: clove warmth with a fruit aroma over it. Indonesian tobacco culture is built around kretek, and while TEREA is nothing like a clove cigarette, Apricity leans towards that heritage more than any other variant. The clove is a warmth at the back and not a spice hit.

It is polarising. People who grew up around kretek recognise it at once, and people expecting a conventional fruit stick often find it strange on the first pack and then come back to it. It is not the place to start with Indonesian TEREA. Bronze or Golden Edition are gentler introductions. Nothing in the Japanese range goes near this territory, because Japanese blends are deliberately dry and restrained.

TEREA Riviera Pearl

Riviera Pearl is the sweetest of the Indonesian Pearls: tropical fruit with a crushable menthol capsule. The fruit is mango-leaning with something lighter behind it, and the Indonesian base pushes the sweetness further than the same idea would go from Japan. Uncrushed it reads almost as a fruit stick. Crushed, it turns crisp and much colder, and the contrast between the halves is the appeal.

The Japanese Pearls run considerably drier. Oasis Pearl is the tart passionfruit alternative. Riviera is the sweet one, by a distance.

Which special flavour should you try first?

• You want fruit with gentle cooling: Golden Edition. It is the easiest of the five to like.
• You want cooling without sweetness: Perint Pearl Edition, with the capsule crushed or left alone.
• You want something sweet and cold: Riviera Pearl.
• You want something light and floral: Dimension Yugen, if you smoke lightly.
• You want to try something unusual: Apricity, after you know how Indonesian sticks behave.

How do these differ from the core TEREA range?

All five come from the Indonesian range, and Indonesian blends are tuned for a market that likes sweeter, fuller sticks with more fruit forward. That is why Golden Edition and Riviera Pearl taste sweeter than most of what we stock from Japan, Italy or Switzerland, and why Apricity has no equivalent anywhere else. The practical differences are small. The pack size, the nicotine figure and the number of puffs match the rest of the range. What changes is flavour and, sometimes, how long a flavour stays in stock.

What do you need to use them?

Every one of them fits IQOS ILUMA and ILUMA i devices and the Lambda i8, and nothing else. There is a small metal element inside each stick, and only an induction holder can heat it. Blade-heated models, such as the IQOS 3 DUO, cannot, and there is no adapter that bridges the two. To use a stick, push it into the holder, wait for the ready signal, and draw at an even pace. A session lasts about six minutes or 14 puffs, whichever ends first. Nothing burns, so there is no ash.

Looking for a limited edition device?

Device limited editions are a separate range and they are genuinely fixed runs. Our IQOS ILUMA limited editions include finishes on the original ILUMA, the i One, the i Standard and the Prime body. The heating and the taste are the same as the standard colours, so you are paying for the finish. Once a run sells out, it is gone.

Every pack ships as new, sealed stock, with its batch coding intact, and is checked before it leaves us. It is never opened, repackaged or grey-market.
