TEREA vs HEETS: which sticks fit which IQOS

TEREA fits IQOS ILUMA and ILUMA i devices. HEETS fit the older blade-heated IQOS models, such as the IQOS 3 DUO and the 2.4. Neither works in the other's device, and no adapter exists.

This is the single most common ordering mistake we deal with. The two look similar on a shelf, so check your device before you order.

Why they are not interchangeable

The difference is in how heat reaches the tobacco. A blade device pushes a heated ceramic blade into the stick. ILUMA does not have a blade at all. Instead, each TEREA stick has a metal element sealed inside it, and the device heats that element by induction through the wall of the holder.

So a HEETS stick in an ILUMA has nothing to heat it, because there is no blade and no metal element in the stick. Nothing happens. And a TEREA stick in a blade device gets a ceramic blade forced into a stick that was never designed to be pierced, which at best does not work and at worst damages the blade.

How to tell which device you have

  • Look inside the holder. If you can see a thin blade sticking up from the base, it is a blade device and takes HEETS.
  • If the holder is smooth and empty inside, it heats by induction and takes TEREA.
  • Cleaning sticks in the box? That is a blade device. ILUMA has nothing to clean.

What if I bought the wrong ones

Sealed packs can be returned within 7 days as long as they are unopened and still in their original packaging. If you have already opened them, unfortunately not, for health and safety reasons. Message us before opening if you are unsure.

Moving from HEETS to TEREA

It means changing device. The cheapest route in is the ILUMA i One, which is a single piece with no separate charger. The i Standard splits into a holder and pocket charger and suits longer days out. Once you are on ILUMA, the whole TEREA range opens up, across seven source markets.

Third-party holders follow the same rule. The Lambda i8 is induction and takes TEREA. The Lambda CC has a blade and takes HEETS.

Same flavour names, different sticks

Several TEREA flavours share a name with a HEETS flavour, such as Amber, Turquoise, Bronze and Yellow. They are still different sticks made for different devices, so a familiar name on the pack does not mean it fits your holder. Check for the word TEREA or HEETS on the pack itself.

BONDS by IQOS and BLENDS

BONDS by IQOS is a separate device that uses its own BLENDS sticks. Neither TEREA nor HEETS fits a BONDS device, and BLENDS do not fit an ILUMA or a blade-heated IQOS.

No. The 3 DUO heats with a ceramic blade, and TEREA sticks have their heating element sealed inside rather than being designed to be pierced. Nothing will happen, and forcing it risks damaging the blade. On a 3 DUO you need HEETS.

No. ILUMA has no blade at all. It heats a metal element inside the TEREA stick by induction, and a HEETS stick has no such element. The device simply has no way to heat it.

No, and anything sold as one should be treated with suspicion. The two systems heat tobacco by fundamentally different methods rather than differing in shape or fit.

It depends on the source market more than the product line. Kyrgyz and Uzbek TEREA is priced below Japanese and Italian stock, and often lands close to HEETS pricing. Compare by market rather than assuming one line is cheaper.

Probably, if your device is an ILUMA or ILUMA i. HEETS is the older term, from before ILUMA existed, and plenty of people still search it out of habit even on a newer device.
