What is TEREA? IQOS heated tobacco sticks explained
TEREA is a heated tobacco stick made for IQOS ILUMA devices. It is never lit: the device heats a small metal element inside the stick, so nothing burns. A pack holds 20 sticks, and each stick lasts about six minutes or up to 14 puffs.

What is TEREA and how does it work?
TEREA is a stick of tobacco about the size of a short cigarette. What makes it different is a small metal element sealed inside it. The ILUMA holder heats that element by induction, through the wall of the device, and the tobacco warms to around 350 °C without burning. That is why there is no lit end and no ash.
Older IQOS models pushed a ceramic blade into the stick to heat it. ILUMA has no blade, so there is nothing to scrape clean and nothing to snap. It is also the reason TEREA only fits ILUMA devices. Blade models take a different stick called HEETS, and the two do not swap in either direction.
TEREA contains tobacco and nicotine and is for adult smokers only. This guide explains what the product is and how it is used. It does not compare TEREA with cigarettes on health, because a shop is the wrong place to answer that.

Most people order a single pack to try a flavour and move to a carton once they know what suits them. The pack size and the nicotine figure are the same in every source market. The flavour and the price are not, which is covered further down.
Which devices does TEREA fit?
Every model in the ILUMA range takes TEREA: the original ILUMA, the i One, the i Standard, the i Prime, the Prime kits and the limited editions. So does the third-party Lambda i8. A TEREA stick from any source market works in any of them.
What it does not fit is anything with a blade. If your holder has a thin blade rising from the base, or came with cleaning sticks in the box, it takes HEETS and TEREA will not work. If you do not own a device yet, the IQOS ILUMA guide goes through every model.
How do you use a TEREA stick?
- Charge the holder. It needs battery before it will heat a stick.
- Push the stick into the holder, filter end out, until it is seated fully.
- The holder heats the stick and signals when it is ready. The i One starts heating on its own as soon as the stick goes in.
- Draw at an even pace. The session ends after about six minutes or 14 puffs. On i-series devices, FlexPuff adds up to four extra puffs if you draw slowly.
- Remove the stick and throw it away. A used stick cannot be heated again.
On the i Prime, Pause Mode holds a part-smoked stick for up to eight minutes, which helps if you are interrupted. On two-piece models the pocket charger tops the holder up between sticks.
What flavours does TEREA come in?
TEREA comes in a handful of families. The names below are the ones we stock most widely, each with its own hub page that compares every region side by side.

Why does the same flavour taste different by country?
TEREA is made for different markets and tuned to local taste, so a flavour with the same name can be a different blend. We stock seven source markets: Japan, Italy, Switzerland, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Plain tobacco flavours barely change between them. Menthol and capsule flavours change the most. Sun Pearl is the widest gap: some regions make it a fruit and menthol stick and one makes it plain roasted tobacco.
Price follows the market too. Japanese, Italian and Swiss sticks sit at the higher end, and Indonesian, Kyrgyz, Uzbek and Tajik sticks cost noticeably less. Which TEREA flavour should you try first?
- You want a plain tobacco taste: Silver is the mildest and Amber is the darker, roasted one.
- You want menthol: Turquoise adds menthol to toasted tobacco and is the usual starting point.
- You want fruit: Purple Wave is berry with menthol, and Oasis Pearl is passionfruit with a capsule you crush for extra cooling.
- You want to keep the cost down: Buy the Kyrgyz or Uzbek version of the same flavour name. On plain tobacco most people cannot tell them apart.
