The pocket charger refills the holder in a couple of minutes, and carries enough charge for a full day of ordinary use on top of that. That is the practical reason people choose this over the i One: not more capability, more runtime.

Does colour affect battery life?

No. Every i Standard colour shares the same pocket charger capacity and holder specification.

Can the holder run without the pocket charger?

Yes, for a single session, but it needs the charger to refill afterwards. It is not a standalone battery the way the i One is.
